Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our mastermind groups and services.
1. How does a mastermind group work?
Mastermind group members meet regularly (generally bi-weekly) in person or virtually. The meeting may feature an icebreaker discussion which features shared insights on a topic of interest. Then, every month each member has time for focused attention as they present a challenge or opportunity to the group, and the group collaborates to find solutions, offer feedback, and provide support. This is called the Hotseat. The meeting ends with a declaration and accountability segment where members make commitments and identify next steps toward their goals, projects, or challenges.
2. Who can join a mastermind group?
Anyone can join a mastermind group, but typically members are professionals, entrepreneurs, business owners, or individuals committed to personal and professional growth and development. Some groups are subject matter-oriented so that all members are working on the same kind of issues
3. I’m interested! How do I find a mastermind group to join?
Our groups are described on our website, and have a waiting list if they are not currently open. See this link:[add link here] . Contact us by email about your interests at info@cartercollaborativesolutions.com. 4. How many members are in a mastermind group?
Depending on the facilitator’s approach, masterminds may be small and intimate or really large. Our mastermind groups would be described as “true masterminds” and are typically 5-8 members, but have a maximum of 12.
5. Do I get to receive input on my individual issues or is it primarily teaching?
Yes, the mastermind is all about your individual needs. Each member has regular, focused Hotseat time to present their challenge or opportunity and receive feedback from the group. A preparatory process for the Hotseat is offered to clarify the question/issue to help the Hotseat to be effective and helpful. Each member participates in the Circle Of Wisdom to encourage other members through their Hotseats. Because of this give and take, the Hotseat is the most important and magical feature of an effective mastermind group. Because participation in the Circle of Wisdom is a responsibility of each member, a commitment to timeliness and attendance is required.
6. How often do mastermind groups meet?
Mastermind groups typically meet weekly or bi-weekly, though some meet only monthly or quarterly, depending on the group’s preferences and availability. Our groups typically meet the 2nd and 4th (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) weeks of the month with a special session in those months with a 5th (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday).
7. What is the commitment required to join a mastermind group?
Members of a mastermind group are expected to attend meetings regularly, actively participate in discussions, and provide support to other members. Members must sign a confidentiality agreement. Each member begins with a year-long commitment to the group.
To ensure your HotSeat is productive, there is preparation time – we recommend you spend an hour or so thinking about what issue you want to bring to the mastermind, and prepare your backstory so that the group can hone in on the issue you want to address. The facilitator or another group member will help you with the preparation. Finally, members typically calendar a follow-up to make sure they implement the commitments made during the meeting.
8. How much does it cost to join a mastermind group?
The cost of joining a mastermind group varies depending on the group’s structure and level of support. Carter Collaborative Solutions’ Mastermind groups are professionally facilitated and do charge a membership fee and require a financial investment. All groups offer a monthly rate and a discounted rate for single payers.
9. What are the benefits of joining a mastermind group?
Joining a mastermind group provides numerous benefits, including access to a supportive community, increased accountability, new perspectives and ideas, and access to a network of like-minded individuals. The group becomes a trusted brain trust, dedicated to your success.
10. How do I get the most out of my mastermind group experience?
To get the most out of your mastermind group experience, it’s important to actively participate in meetings, and to engage in the Facebook or other social media group. To get the most out of the group, you need to be transparent and honest. You will benefit the most when you are open to feedback and to new ideas. Those who are willing to take action on the insights and strategies discussed in the group see the most progress. At the outset, we will help you establish clear goals and expectations for your participation in the group.
11. Are there other benefits to joining?
Most of our groups include other features such as a goal-setting session, one-on-one quarterly coaching, sprints (short 2-4 weeks focussed goal attainment sessions), or co-working sessions. For our highest end Mastermind, an annual in-person retreat is planned as a feature in 2025, while other groups may have a virtual retreat.
